100 Life Lessons

Write a letter to your 100-year-old self.

I kept fretting about having to let me friend down. I was not feeling well, and had confirmed I would help with getting some of the things ready for the party. A day before I was still feeling poorly. I finally braced myself to make the call, feeling bad about causing a disappointment.

“Oh, sorry I didn’t tell you.” She explained she had had to cancel the party with her family members being unwell for the past week. It was deemed best to help them recover fully, and also not spread the bugs to guests.

My headache and anxiety for days had been unnecessarily energy sapping, and probably slowed my recovery. It was not my first time. There have since been times I have said ‘yes’ and taking on too much!

I am getting better at self-care, learning to say no more often when indicated, enjoying “me time” even when some may think it does not make sense. To my younger self I will firmly say, please heed Maya Angelou’s words:

Never make someone a priority when all you are to them is an option.
